Travel Club: The Library District’s new travel club meets the third Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. to discuss a different travel destination, view slideshows, and share information.

On Watch: The Police Department offers the Watch Mail service, an e-mail system that sends out public safety and other information. To sign up, visit bppd.com and click on the “watch-mail” link.

New Digs for Rent: Several areas of the new Buena Park Community Center are available for rent for parties or other gatherings. The Center is at 6688 Beach Blvd., just behind City Hall. The center has a ballroom, outside patio and more outdoor space. Information: 714.562.3860.

Get Fit: Seniors looking to stay active can take advantage of the West Wing Wellness Center at the Ehlers Community Recreation Center, 8150 Knott Ave. The fitness room has treadmills, a rower and weight machines available for a fee. Information: 714.236.3870 or bplegacy.org.

House Cleaning: Park Waste and Recycling offers free curbside pickup for large and bulky items. Customers must call at least two days before the regular weekly trash collection to request a pickup. Accepted items include furniture, scrap metal, air conditioners and other appliances, and one television or computer monitor. Tires, dirt, concrete and hazardous materials are not accepted. Sing: The Buena Park Community Chorus is looking for some new singers. The chorus meets from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each Monday at the Ehlers Community Recreation Center, 8150 Knott Ave. Prospective members do no need to be Buena Park residents. Information: 714.523.1635.

E-Reading: E-books are available to patrons at the Buena Park Library by visiting buenapark.lib.overdrive.com. The service is available for the Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, iPad and other devices and is free for library card holders. Information: buenaparklibrary.org.

Sing Better: Free voice lessons from a music professor are offered at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7082 Crescent Ave. Information: 714.827.6021 or goodshepherdlcbp.org.

Smoke Alarms: The County Fire Authority will distribute 1,000 smoke alarms for the deaf and hard-of-hearing free to multi-family homes with disabled residents. For information or to be added to the list to receive these devices, call 714.573.6153 or 714.573.6200.

Close-to-Home Grown: Buena Park residents with a hankering for fresh vegetables can secure plots in the city’s community gardens on Thelma Drive, just west of Knott Avenue. Large plots (30 feet by 20 feet) are $75 annually; medium plots (20 feet by 20 feet) are $60; and small plots (15 feet by 20 feet) are $45. Information: 7114.236.3860.

What To Do: The current edition of the city’s activities guide and newsletter is available online. Along with news about the community, it has listings of recreation and sports classes for all ages and information on how to register. You can find it at BuenaPark.com.

Recycling Batteries: Residents can recycle their household batteries (AAA, AA, C, D and 9V only) for free at Park Waste & Recycling Services during operating hours. Information: 714.522.3577.

Streaming: Buena Park’s City Council meetings and other city information can be found on the city’s website, buenapark.com. Click on “BPTV” in the lower right corner.

Certified Farmer’s Market, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at  La Palma Avenue and Stanton Avenue. In addition to produce and nuts, baked goods and hot foods are available.

Get Away: The Happy Wonderers Travel Club at the Buena Park Senior Activity Center offers trips, including a Pacific coastal cruise to San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Catalina and Ensenada; there is also a three-day, two-night trip to the Laughlin Riverside Hotel and Casino.
