Newsletter: The Silverado-Modjeska Recreation and Park District is launching a new edition of its newsletter and is looking for events to include in the publication. Send details on activities, classes or hikes in the Silverado and Modjeska canyon communities to lisacollins@smrpd.org.

Hiking Opportunity: Get passes to hike Holy Jim Canyon at the Trabuco Canyon General Store. The approximately 5-mile trail round trip includes views of tall oaks, sycamores, pines and wildlife. Entrance to trail is off Trabuco Canyon Road a quarter mile past Trabuco School and onto Trabuco Creek dirt road.

‘Hawk Cam’: Starr Ranch Sanctuary has installed a video camera that transmits streaming video of a red-shouldered hawk nesting with two eggs in Bell Canyon. Watch the video at starrranch.org.

Conservation Area: Irvine Ranch Conservancy has a new website for residents to learn about and register for events in protected canyon areas: letsgooutside.org.

Canyon Community Garden: The Silverado Children’s Center is creating a community garden with space for individual gardeners and cooperative groups next to the center at 7525 Santiago Canyon Road in Silverado. Those wanting to join should email their full name and phone number to gfsark@cox.net.
