Farmer’s Market:  7 a.m. to 12 noon Saturdays at Cerritos Towne Center Shopping Center.

Senior Lunches: The Cypress Senior Center hosts lunches beginning at 10:45 a.m. Mondays through Fridays at the center, 9031 Grindlay St. A suggested donation of $2.50 applies for those age 60 and older and $3.50 for others. Information: 714.229.2005.

Group Birthday: The Cypress Senior Center hosts an 11:30 a.m. birthday celebration for senior citizens every third Monday of the month. Lunch for Cypress residents celebrating their birthday is complimentary and the event is open to the public with a $3 suggested donation for non-residents 60+ and $5 for those under 60. Grief Counseling: The Cypress Senior Center is hosting a bereavement support group from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the center, 9031 Grindlay St. The group discusses the grief process, life after loss, depression, loneliness and positive transitions. Business Sense: Orange County SCORE, a program to assist business owners and entrepreneurs with no-charge counseling and other tools, holds regular workshops in Cypress. The counseling is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the Cypress Civic Center, 5275 Orange Ave. One-hour appointments are available. Text a Librarian Program: The Cypress College Library now allows students and residents to text librarians from their mobile phones with simple questions such as information on available books and library hours. Inquiries can be texted to “cypress66746” or sent through the website at library.cypresscollege.edu. Information: 714.484.7069.

Materials Needed: The Cypress Public Library is asking for used-but-in-good-shape books, videos, DVDs, sheet music and magazines for the book sale area at the library, 5331 Orange Ave. Information: 714.826.0354.

You can sign up to get text alerts on news about Disney, tourism and Knott’s Berry Farm from the Register’s Aroundisney.com blog. Fans can subscribe to AroundDisney.com text alerts by texting OCRDISNEY to 56654. Text alerts are sent three times a week.

Battery Recycling: Used batteries, excluding car batteries, can be dropped off at the Cypress Civic Center, the Cypress Community Center, and the Cypress Senior Center. The types of batteries accepted include lithium, mercury, nickel-metal hybrid and nickel-cadmium. Information: 714.299.6680

Council on TV: Residents can watch council meetings on Cypress City Channel 36. Meetings are at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays every month. The meetings are replayed at 1 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Sundays. Information: 714.229.6700.

Vacation Check: Residents who will be away from home and would like the Police Department to keep an eye on their house may request a vacation check by calling 714.229.6692. Vacation checks are free and include a physical check of the residence to ensure no windows or doors have been opened or tampered with. Information: ci.cypress.ca.us.
