Senior Recreation: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Hub facility. Activities include games, movies, reading, computers, bingo and free coffee. Must sign up for free membership. Information: 714.690.3350.

Speak Up: The city wants to hear from residents about issues such as public safety, parks and recreation and long-term financial planning through the Community Voice page at cityoflapalma.org/communityvoice.

Connected City: Residents who want to find local businesses, clubs and organizations can connect through a new mobile app called E2G2. This neighborhood network lists licensed business in the city and encourages residents to support local businesses. To connect, go to lapalma.e2g2.com or download the mobile app at Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Living Green: The city’s Residential Tree Planting Rebate Program encourages residents to plant a new tree in their front yards. Property owners of single-family detached homes can apply for a rebate of up to $75 to pay for trees, staking equipment and planting. Guidelines are at cityoflapalma.org/TreeRebate. Local Info: Residents can sign up to be notified of community news, emergencies, City Council meetings and other events for free via email. To sign up, visit cityoflapalma.org and click on ‘notify me’ on the column at lower left.

What To Do: Along with recreation classes and activities available, the latest La Palma Mosaic has tips for landscaping in ways that protect storm drains and waterways; information on the new curbside recycling program; library programs and other events. Find the Mosaic at www.cityoflapalma.org.

Library Books: The La Palma Branch Library offers books in different languages. Books in Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Spanish are available at the library, 7842 Walker St. Information: 714.523.8585.

Council On Audio: Audio recordings of previous City Council meetings are available via the city’s website: CityofLaPalma.org. Information: 714.690.3300.

Meds Drop-off: The city has a Pharmaceutical Collection Box inside City Hall, at 7822 Walker St. La Palma. Residents can dispose of non-controlled pharmaceutical medicines, including expired or unneeded over-the-counter medications. Bottles and liquids cannot be accepted. E-Waste Collection: Park Disposals bulk item and e-waste collection to help residents in the disposal of large, bulky items such as furniture, televisions, refrigerators, stoves and water heaters. These special collections are provided by appointment only. Information: 714.522.3577.

Referrals: The Orange County Information and Referral program gives older residents access to various services and legal information: 714.567.7500.

Hitchin’ a Ride: The La Palma Recreations & Community Services Department offers transportation referrals for seniors needing a way to get around and, if necessary, will help with paperwork. Information: 714.690.3350.

Hot Meals: Residents unable to cook for themselves can get inexpensive, hot and nutritious meals delivered to their houses daily with La Palma’s Meals for Wheels program, which has slots available for residents in need. Information: 724.690.3350.

Seniors Club: The La Palma Seniors Club meets from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays at the Community Center. The club, for those ages 50 and older, has games fundraisers, potlucks, luncheons, guest speakers and other activities. The yearly membership is $5.

Swimming Classes: The La Palma Recreation and Community Services is offering water-fitness classes those 55 and older at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital’s indoor, heated pool. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cost is $40 a month. Space is limited, and in-person registration is required at the La Palma Center Park office, 7821 Walker St. Information: 714.690.3350.

Free Movies: The city is offering free movies for senior citizens at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at The Hub, 5414 La Palma Ave. Information: 714.690.3350.

Toastmasters: The La Palma Toastmaster Club meets at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Hub, 5414 La Palma Ave. The public is invited. Toastmaster members develop public speaking skills in a supportive environment. Information: 949.613.4237 or LaPalma.FreeToastHost.org.

Chess Club: The La Palma Chess Club is hosting chess class from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Friday through December 30th at the Community Center, 7821 Walker St. The class is open from ages 10 and older. The club offers tournaments, casual play and lessons upon request. Entry fee is $40 and $45 for nonresidents. Information: CityofLaPalma.org.
