Free Legal Advice: The OC Public Libraries Laguna Hills Technology Branch partners with the county’s Public Law Center to offer free legal consultations with attorneys once a month as part of the “Lawyers in the Library” program. To sign up, visit the library at 25555 Alicia Parkway or call 949.707.2699.

Screenings: Saddleback Memorial is offering $25 cholesterol screenings the second Thursday of every month from 7:30-9:00 a.m. Appointments and fasting are required. Free lung screening (spirometry) is offered Tuesdays 2-3:00 p.m.; registration is required. Information: 1.800.636.6742 or memorialcare.org.

Fire Safety: Orange County Fire Authority has free fire-alerting devices for residents who are deaf or hard of hearing and live in apartments or other multi-family homes. Volunteers from Age Well Senior Services will install the devices. Homes must also have a smoke detector. Information: 949.855.8033.

Wildfire Information: Visit the city’s website at ci.laguna-hills.ca.us and check out the wildfire safety plan with tips on creating a disaster plan for your family and keeping an emergency supply kit in your car.

E-Read: There are two Sony Readers at the OC Public Libraries Laguna Hills Technology Branch for anyone who wants to try out an electronic reading device. The library, at 25555 Alicia Parkway, also has downloadable books. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Driving Test Prep: The Florence Sylvester Senior Center Driving Resource Room offers a 1.5 hour computerized program allows drivers to review with an instructor the rules of the road for the written DMV test.  Call 949.380.0155 for an appointment.

Free HIV Testing: Shanti Orange County, 23461 South Pointe Drive, Suite 100, provides free, anonymous HIV testing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday. Test results are available in 20 minutes. Information: 949.452.0888.
