Pinochle: A free senior pinochle club meets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the Senior Center inside the Mary Wilson Library, 707 Electric Ave. Information: 562.431.2527.

Farmers Market: Every Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in nearby parking lot of the Alamitos Bay Marina on East Marina Drive in Long Beach. Items include fresh produce, flowers, fish meat, eggs, bread. The market features organic farms, musicians and ready-made foods. Information:

Senior Services: Older adults who are facing problems they cannot resolve on their own, can turn to Community Senior Services case managers. Referrals may be made by any concerned individual, physician, social service worker, family member, neighbor or the seniors themselves. Information: 714.220.0224.

Chamber Walks: The Chamber of Commerce sponsors weekly ‘networking walks’ on Wednesdays, starting at 7 a.m. by the pier. Information: 562.799.0179 and

Free Fitness Classes: Tru II Form, a women’s fitness center, is offering free fitness classes for women cancer patients and survivors Monday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. A letter from the patient’s doctor is required. Information: Chris at 562.493.5884.

Alzheimer’s Support Group: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. every second Tuesdays, at Sunrise assisted-living’s Bistro, 3850 Lampson. Free. Information: 562.594.5788.

Beach Cleanups: OC Active Seniors is a proud supporter of Save Our Beach which sponsors its monthly beach cleanup 3rd Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to Noon. Volunteers should meet at the beach parking lot at the end of 1st Street. Information: 562.884.6764 or

Computer Classes: Seniors looking to learn how to use a computer can sign up for two-week sessions at the Youth Center in Los Alamitos. Classes for beginning start at 10 a.m. and intermediate classes follow at 11:30 a.m. The fee for the two-week session is $25. Information: 562.430.1073.

Wildlife Refuge: The Seal Beach Wildlife Refuge at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station usually offers a free tour held at 8:30 a.m. on the last Sunday of every month. Those who would like to take the walking tour should wear comfortable shoes, wear sunscreen and bring binoculars. Information: 562.598.1024.

Make Buddies Over Bunco, 5:45 p.m. second Friday  and third Wednesday every month at Khoury’s Restaurant, 110 N. Marina Dr. Long Beach. Information 562.243.8987.

Senior Lunches: The Seal Beach Community Services department, along with Community SeniorServ, offers hot meals for seniors Monday through Friday at the North Seal Beach Center, 3333 St. Cloud Drive. The program also incorporates speakers, dancers, games and other social and educational activities. Reservations 562.430.6079 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For home-bound seniors, Community SeniorServ delivers three meals to their homes for a suggested donation of $4.50 per day. Friendly Help: Seniors who need help can contact the Orange County Senior Citizens Information and Referral Line at 714.567.7500. The program helps seniors gain access to a variety of programs that can help with issues such as legal needs and nutrition.

Red Car Museum: The Seal Beach Historical Society invites the public to visit the Red Car Museum. The museum, contained in an old Red Car, sits on Electric Avenue near Main Street and is open the second and fourth Saturdays of the month  from noon to 3 p.m. Information: 562.430.1450.

Neighbor Watch: The Seal Beach Police Department kicked off a pilot program called Neighbor4Neighbor. To become involved, contact Sgt. Steve Bowles at 562.799.4100, ext. 1160 or

Senior Dial-A-Ride: Local seniors can get free rides from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday anywhere in the city with a reservation through the Seal Beach Dial-A-Ride program. They can travel three miles outside the city for medical appointments. Reservations are needed at least 24 hours in advance by calling: 562.439.3699.

Residents can learn the best ways to make their personal computers faster and keep them free of spyware and viruses. Improving PC Performance will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th at the Los Alamitos Community Center, 10911 Oak St. The cost is s$38 a person an it is open to residents age 18 and up.
