Senior Health: A “Help Yourself to Health” class is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday at the Stanton Community Center, 7800 Katella Ave. The class is free and intended for seniors 60 and older. It includes exercises to increase circulation, static stretches to minimize muscle pain and balance exercises.

Senior Help: The Parks and Recreation Services Department offers a variety of senior service referrals, including adult day care, counseling, home health care, housing and home-delivered meals. Information: 714.890.4276.

Stantonites Senior Club: For city residents 50 years or older. The group meets every Thursday from 7 a.m. to noon at the Civic Center. Events include potlucks, holiday celebrations, trips, birthday parties, card games, bingo and more. Memberships is $5 a year. Information 714.890.4270 or

Recycle It: The city has launched its “Cease the Grease” program to encourage residents to recycle cooking grease using free containers provided by CR&R Waste Services. Information: 714.826.9049.

Business Help: The Stanton Redevelopment Agency is offering grants, rebates and loans to help businesses improve the aesthetics of their properties, fund specific safety measures or incorporated design elements from the Livable Beach Boulevard Mobility Plan. Senior News: Residents interested in getting a copy of the city’s newsletter for seniors, “Stanton Hour Glass,” can call 714.890.4276.

English Classes: The city, with North Orange County Community College District, offers free English as a Second Language classes for adults from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. Information:

Afternoon Movies: The Stanton Community Service Center shows family-friendly movies for children, parents and grandparents every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Information: 714. 890.4270 or

Blood Pressure Checks: Blood pressure screenings for seniors are offered from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month at the Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.

Bingo: Seniors and other interested in playing bingo can join the Wednesday tournament at 10 a.m. at the Stanton Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave.

Begonia Society: The Doug Frost Begonia Society hosts a program and plant table every first Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Fernwood Mobile Home Park, 10550 Western Avenue. Information: 714.816.0717.

Lunch Rides: The city offers transportation to seniors needing a ride to the Stanton Senior Center for low-cost lunches. Senior residents should call 714.890.4276 to arrange a ride.

Movies: The Stanton Community Services Center, 11822 Santa Paula St., offers a family movie every Friday. It begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Center. Information: 714.379.0129.

Senior Club: The Stantonites Senior Club meets from 7 a.m. to noon Thursdays at the Civic Center, 7800 Katella Ave. The club holds a variety of events and discussions during the meeting along with bingo at 10 a.m. Membership for residents 50 and older is $5 per year. Piano Time: Every Tuesday a volunteer plays the piano from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Stanton Community Center, 7800 Katella Ave. The piano playing is intended for seniors, but all are welcome to come and listen and sing-along. Information:
