E-News: Residents can sign up for the city’s E-News Network to receive up-to-date information via email regarding updates on City Council agendas, community events, notices, surveys and other items by visiting villapark.org.

Alarm Check: A city program ensures residents have proper smoke alarms. Teams inspect alarms and install free devices if needed. Information: 714.998.1500.

Lawnmower Exchange: The South Coast Air Quality Management District is offering residents the chance to trade in old, gas-powered lawn mowers for high-performance electric mowers at discounted prices up to 75% off. Trade in locations and days vary. To register, visit aqmd.gov or call 888.425.6247.

Rotary Meetings: The Rotary Club meets each Thursday from 7-8:30 a.m. at the Villa Park City Hall, 17855 Santiago Blvd. The club is continuously looking for new members. Meetings include breakfast and guest speakers. Information: www.rotaryclubofvillapark.org.

Villa Park News: The Villa Park Report is now airing at 10 p.m. on VPTV (Channel 3 on Time Warner, Channel 99 on AT&T U-verse), or streaming via the city’s website, as well as on YouTube. Information: VillaPark.org.

Bulb Recycling: The city is offering free compact fluorescent light bulb recycling at City Hall, 17855 Santiago Blvd. Residents can bring bulbs, as well as four-foot fluorescent  bulbs, and place them in marked bins. It is illegal to throw away these bulbs away in the trash due to their mercury content. Information: 714.998.1500.

Solicitor Info: Residents wishing to not be disturbed by solicitors can add their name to a list on the city website. Visit VillaPark.org and add your name to the “No Solicitor List” located on the site’s main page. Solicitors must have a city-issued permit. Information: 714.998.1500.

Community Preservation: The city has created a Community Preservation Program, which focuses on code enforcement to preserve and protect the values of the city to maintain the community. Residents can call anonymously to report municipal code violations. Information: 714.998.1500.

Foundation Information: The Villa Park Community Services Foundation has a website at VPCSFoundation.org. The foundation is a non-profit organization established by the city to underwrite and plan community events, engage citizens, and support schools without cost to the city. 

Free Vacation Check: The Sheriff’s Department is providing a free vacation check for residents who will be out of town for a few days or weeks. The service involves a physical check of the residence to ensure that no windows or doors have been tampered with. Information: OCSD.org or 714.647.7000.

Recycling Pickup: Villa Park Disposal also offers bulky item and e-waste collection. Items such as furniture, televisions, refrigerators, stoves and water heaters can be picked up by appointment only. Information and appointments: 714.238.2444 or VillaParkDisposal.net.

Collectibles Club: The Hooked on Hallmark Ornaments (HoHo) Club holds its monthly meeting on the third Wednesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 17855 Santiago Blvd. The club promotes collecting Hallmark ornaments and collectibles. Club dues are $12 annually, but the first meeting is free. Information: hohocluboc.com.

Public Speaking Help: The Villa Park Toastmaster Club meets from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at Rockwell’s Cafe & Bakery, 17853 Santiago Blvd. First-time attendees receive free breakfast. Toastmasters members develop public speaking skills in a supportive environment. Information: 949.922.9683.
