BE A VOLUNTEER IN THE DOHENY STATE BEACH VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTER
The newly reopened Doheny State Beach Visitor Center contains the
largest aquarium in the California State Parks, as well as displays of the
local birds and mammals of our area.  The Interpretive Association is
looking for docents who will informally guide its guests and sell items in
the gift store.  HOW ABOUT YOU?!?  You don’t need to be an expert on the
critters, just be willing to learn.  We ask that you commit to one,
six-hour shift per month (but you’re always welcome to do more).  Come on,
it’s fun!  Send contact information to Doheny Park Interpreter Vicki Wiker
at  vwiker@parks.ca.gov .

JOIN US ON CALIFORNIA COASTAL CLEAN UP DAY,
Saturday, September 20th, 9 AM to Noon
Participate in one of the largest volunteer events in the world as
volunteers from up and down the coast join together to remove trash from
California beaches and waterways.  The Doheny event, lead by our park’s
Naturalist, Vicki Wiker, will meet at the Lifeguard Headquarters building
by San Juan Creek at 9 AM to rally up.  We’ll hit the beaches, San Juan
Creek and the park.  Environmental displays and groups will be present and
goodies from local eateries are always available.  Special thanks to the
City of Dana Point and Starbuck’s Coffee .  Doheny has a zero-waste policy
by which participants are encouraged to bring along: 1) working or
gardening gloves( to keep your hands protected and clean), 2)  a re-use
bag (paper or plastic) or bucket to collect trash, and 3) a drink
container to re-fill at the watering station.  Learn more about this
statewide event at http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/join.html
